Mari Selvaraj, who has previously worked with Dhanush in his critically-acclaimed directorial Karnan (2021), shared his words of praise for the actor's latest film Kara, directed by Vignesh Raja.
As it hits theatres on Thursday, the Maamannan director caught a special show of the period action thriller film and termed it as a "remarkable cinematic experience." In his recent X post, Mari Selvaraj said, "It sparked excitement, emotion, thought, and gripping intensity within me," he said, highlighting how Dhanush brought striking realism to the screen by embodying Jitu Munda from Odisha.
For the unversed, the 42-year-old tribal man from Odisha recently drew global attention after arriving at a bank with the mummified remains of his deceased sister in an attempt to withdraw money from her account. Having failed to access the funds on three separate occasions following her death, he resorted to this extreme step. The situation was eventually resolved after the bank assured him of the release of the money and facilitated the withdrawal.
Mari Selvaraj, who expressed his shock on the issue, thanked Dhanush and mentioned his gratitude for bringing the man's story on screen as Karasaami. "It stirred my heart deeply. Kara deserves to be celebrated," he further wrote.
Kara has been written by Vignesh Raja as well as Alfred Prakash. The film has Dhanush playing Karasaami aka Kara, a robber during the Gulf War of 1991 which leads to a fuel crises in Tamil Nadu, forcing him to battle for his sustenance.
Kara features Mamitha Baiju as Selli, Jayaram as Muthu Selvan, KS Ravikumar as Kandhasaami, Suraj Venjaramoodu as Bharathan, and Karunaas as Kasi Maayan, Sreeja Ravi as Dhanam, and Prithvi Pandiarajan as Murugesan. MS Bhaskar is also part of the film.
GV Prakash Kumar is composing music for the upcoming film, continuing his collaboration with Dhanush after Idli Kadai (2025). The crew of the film includes Theni Eswar as the director of photography, Sreejith Sarang as the editor, Mayapandi as the art director, and Dinesh Kasi as the action director.
Meanwhile, Dhanush and Mari Selvaraj are set to reunite for another project. While major details regarding the project have been kept under wraps, the Bison director, during a recent press meet, noted that it would be a "fantasy, historical, and political film." and would be the "biggest project" of his career. While it was earlier confirmed to be D56, the line-up has changed now as pre-production for the film is getting delayed.
