It has been three successful weeks at the theatres with Suriya-RJ Balaji's latest action drama Karuppu, and the film, which has already minted over Rs 300 crores, is showing no signs of slowing down. The film, packed with an ensemble cast consisting of RJ Balaji himself as the antagonist, along with Indrans, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, Sshivada and Supreeth Reddy. But it has now been revealed that Arya too was part of the cast and had made a cameo appearance in the film.
In a recent interview, the film's editor Kalaivanan said his portions, along with a few other callbacks to popular films were edited out. "While we did not do major changes to the footage, we did edit out a few small cameos with 20-30 seconds of on-screen appearances which include the brothers from Doctor - Raghu Ram and Rajiv Lakshmanan, a reference to GOAT and scenes of Arya sir," he revealed.
Kalaivanan further added that Arya's scene was among the longest in the film, and would be released separately in the deleted scenes footage.
Karuppu has Suriya portraying the titular guardian deity who descends to Earth to help a distressed family when they call out for his help. However, he soon realises the rigged nature of the legal system which has been guarded by corrupt individuals for decades, and decides to reform them.
Following the film's success, Suriya gifted Mahindra BE6 model cars to editor Kalaivanan, cinematographer GK Vishnu and composer Sai Abhyankkar.
Meanwhile, Arya, who was last seen in filmmaker Manu Anand's Mr X, is awaiting the release of his Tamil-Malayalam bilingual Ananthan Kaadu, helmed by Jiyen Krishnakumar, which is set to hit theatres on June 25. Up next, he has Pa Ranjith-VR Dinesh's Vettuvam and is also set to be seen in Sarpatta Parambarai 2 which is yet to go on floors.
