It has been close to two months since Suriya's Karuppu released in theatres and a few weeks since it made its way to OTT, but discussions surrounding the actioner as well as director RJ Balaji's future projects continue to surface on social media.
In a recent discussion, RJ Balaji was asked by an audience member if he would make a film with Ajith Kumar as his next project. To the question, he replied, "We can't plan anything. If I have a project for Ajith sir and the situation demands it, I don't know if it will happen or not. We have to do our duty, and if the movie with him materialises, I will be happy."
Earlier, RJ Balaji discussed the possibility of making a second part to Karuppu. Sharing details, he confirmed that a sequel would be made for the film, but he and his team are not willing to rush into it immediately. "We don't wish to jump into it right now. While we do have a core idea - God vs politics, we are not sure if this is the right time in the state to have a political film. We don't know about that. In our mind, we also have another line and the prospect of it is very exciting," he explained, adding that he doesn't want to jump from the first part to the second and then to third and so on.
Karuppu was a massive commercial success, which earned massive box office success by minting Rs 175 crores+ in Tamil Nadu and Rs 304 crores+ worldwide. In the film, Suriya portrays the titular guardian deity who descends to Earth to help a distressed family when they call out for his help. However, he soon realises the rigged nature of the legal system which has been guarded by corrupt individuals for decades, and decides to reform them. The cast of the film also includes Trisha, Indrans, Swasika, Sshivada, Anagha Maya Ravi, Supreeth Reddy, Natty Natraj, among others. The filmmaker portrays the antagonist, Baby Kannan.
