Suriya's latest film Karuppu continues to make headlines, even two weeks after it premiered on OTT. The action entertainer which earned massive box office success by minting Rs 175 crores+ in Tamil Nadu and Rs 304 crores+ worldwide, faced criticism following its OTT release for its "poor" and "dull" colour grading. Acknowledging the issues, director RJ Balaji has now apologised for the technical issues.

In a recent interview with Cine Ulagam, RJ Balaji said, "I have always accepted the issues surrounding Karuppu. For example, if there's a head replacement shot, it will take almost eight to ten months to make it. To create it, we have to pay the company ahead of that time. In our situation, we couldn't make the payment on time and couldn't follow the deadlines that they laid down. There were many practical constraints."

He further elaborated on how they had to make do with minimal shots for a few sequences including a key fight scene in the climax where Suriya arrives as his own police character from Singam. "In that scene, we use minimum shots to achieve what we wanted. There were many shots in it, but we couldn't use all of them. Nobody pointed it out in theatres, but on OTT, many had paused to find that out. We didn't do it well and that it the truth. After its streaming debut, there were only four to five issues that people had criticised us for, and one of them was this. A lot of audiences are still enjoying it online as much as they did in theatres," he added.

In Karuppu, Suriya portrays the titular guardian deity who descends to Earth to help a distressed family when they call out for his help. However, he soon realises the rigged nature of the legal system which has been guarded by corrupt individuals for decades, and decides to reform them.

The cast of the film also includes TrishaIndrans, Swasika, Sshivada, Anagha Maya Ravi, Supreeth Reddy, Natty Natraj, among others. The filmmaker portrays the antagonist, Baby Kannan.

The technical team includes editor Kalaivanan, cinematographer GK Vishnu and composer Sai Abhyankkar.
