At the pre-release event of his upcoming film, Mr X, actor Arya was asked about the recent leak of actor-politician Vijay's Jana Nayagan on piracy sites. The actor called the act "brutal and cruel" and said that no film deserves such an act.
He said, "Leaking a film is very brutal and cruel. I don't understand what those who indulge in piracy benefit from it, or how it satiates them. It's just sadistic. It is not acceptable for any film, let alone Vijay sir's film. Even a small film is made with the hard work of so many people. This is a big film, made with a budget of Rs 400-500 crores. Leaking such a film at such a time is definitely unacceptable."
A day after the news broke, Arya condemned the same. He took to X to write, "#Jananayagan leak totally unacceptable. Can't understand why would anybody want to be this cruel and brutal. It's truly an act of betrayal."
What initially started out as a leak of a five-minute clipping was eventually discovered as the full film's leak. Ever since, the entire film industry has spoken up, standing in solidarity with actor Vijay, director H Vinoth and the film's team, condemning the piracy.
Meanwhile, Aadhav Arjuna, TVK's general secretary, alleged that L Murugan, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, may be responsible for the leak. Following the allegation, the Press Information Bureau clarified on Saturday that the CBFC had no part in leaking the film.
Jana Nayagan also stars Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, Priyamani, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Bobby Deol, among others. The film is said to be the remake of Nandamuri Balakrishna's Bhagavanth Kesari, though denied by the makers.
On the other hand, Mr X, helmed by Manu Anand, also stars Manju Warrier, Sarath Kumar, Gautham Ram Karthik and Raiza Wilson, among others. The film is gearing up to open in theatres on April 17.
