On Saturday, we reported about the Censor Board denying the speculation about their potential role in the leak of Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay and directed by H Vinoth. There has been much discourse about whether the censorship organisation leaked it to negatively affect Vijay's reputation in the lead up to the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections. At the same time, some argue that the production team themselves had it leaked for political reasons. Director Ameer also weighed in on the debate around the Jana Nayagan leak.
Speaking to Thanthi TV, Ameer said that if the leak happened from the Censor Board's end, the file must have had a watermark indicating the same. Instead, he insinuated that the file contained the word 'Editing Copy,' suggesting that it happened from the film's crew member.
Ameer added that it is not impossible to find out the source of the leak. "If you check which edit table it has come from, you could find out the truth easily. It would be possible to find out where they worked," the filmmaker said, referring to the leaked film. He also alleged that there is a political agenda behind the film's leak. He rhetorically added, "The BJP initiated immediate investigations into the Karur Stampede; why a similar measure has not been made with regard to the Jana Nayagan leak?"
Ameer also urged the government to find out the truth behind the leak, bring those responsible for it to justice and punish them. "Do not mislead youngsters," he said, contradicting the generally held notion about the Censor Board being the source of the leak.
Ameer's comments come not long after KVN Productions, the banner behind the Vijay starrer, shared a notice, cautioning the public against spreading the leaked print further and revealing that forensic investigations are underway to determine the source.
