Indian Formula One racing driver Narain Karthikeyan is all set to collaborate with actor and fellow racer Ajith Kumar for the upcoming Asian Le Mans Series, a partnership that will eventually lead to the coveted 24 Hours of Le Mans in France if they qualify.

Speaking at the India Today Conclave recently, Narain opened up about his relationship with the actor, praising his dedication towards the sport and humility towards everyone. "He’s easy to get along with, eager to learn from professionals, and genuinely committed to building something for Indian motorsport. I’m really looking forward to this journey," he said.

When probed about their long-standing association and friendship for the last 20 years, he revealed that they got to know each other during his Formula Two days in England. The actor, who was deeply interested in pursuing the sport would often ask for tips and tricks on track. "He always wanted to learn, and I would give him tips about tracks in England. That’s when I realised he was very genuine and deeply committed to motorsport," he said.

However, their collaboration for Le Mans began when they were discussing the idea at a dinner table when Ajith came forward with the idea of forming an al-India team. Although, Narain was not interested in the idea, the actors peruasion eventually led him to say yes. "Ajith shared his plan of creating a truly Indian team with Indian drivers. Initially, I brushed it off, but six months later he called me again and said, ‘Let’s do this'," he said.

Narain also shared details about his upcoming biopic that is in the works. While he expressed his excitement for the project, he refused to reveal further information. "It's a bit premature to talk about it. The script looks exciting," he said, stating that the new film would cover his childhood in Coimbatore to his journey to Formula 2. Writer-editor-director Mahesh Narayanan, best known for helming critically acclaimed Malayalam films such as Take OffMalikC U Soon, and Ariyippu, is set to direct the film.

The racer also picked Ajith as his first choice for a remake of F1: The Movie, if it were ever to be made. "Without a doubt, Ajith would be the perfect choice. Even at the age of 50, he continues to participate in several ages with the same enthusiasm," he said.

It is to be noted that at the Michelin 12H Paul Ricard 2025 in July this year, Ajith addressed the prospects of him starring in a car racing film set in India. Drawing a comparison between Brad Pitt starring in F1, a film shot in real locations and also featuring real-life Formula One drivers, the broadcaster's anchor asked Ajith whether a similar film against the backdrop of the 24H series is likely. In his response, Ajith suggested that he would rather do a film such as Fast and Furious or even an F1 sequel in Hollywood. "I normally perform my own stunts in the film. So if there is a calling, why not?" Ajith said.
