Actor Anupama Parameswaran became emotional as she recalled her journey with Bison, directed by Mari Selvaraj, at the film’s pre-release event on Sunday. The film, which stars Dhruv Vikram, Anupama Parameswaran, Rajisha Vijayan, Lal, Ameer, and Pasupathy, is set to release on October 17 ahead of Deepavali.
“This is a very surreal moment for me,” Anupama began. “Years ago, I was waiting in my car outside a shopping mall when I received a call from Ranjith sir. He had called me for Pariyerum Perumal, but unfortunately, I didn’t have the right dates. I’ve always regretted not being part of that film,” she said. “I never thought Mari sir would call me for another film after that. Pariyerum Perumal is my favourite film, and even more so for my father, who has watched it at least twenty times. Every time a poster or trailer from one of Mari sir’s films came out, I’d look at it with awe. Over the years, I’ve become a fan of his."
Talking about finally being cast in Bison, she added, “When I got the call, I had to pinch myself. Then I was called in for a look test and photoshoot. Back when I did Premam, I was a completely different Anupama; someone clueless about cinema but filled with curiosity. Almost ten years later, during the Bison photoshoot, I felt like that same Anupama again.”
Reflecting on her decade-long career, Anupama said, “When I did Premam, I realised cinema is not just a medium; it’s magic. After Premam, it took Bison to make me feel that magic again. I truly believe it’s destiny that brought me here.”
She went on to thank director Mari Selvaraj for his influence on her as an actor. “Your honest filmmaking is something I deeply love, Mari sir. Every frame you fix, every line you write, and every story you tell constantly inspires me. The Anupama before Bison and the Anupama after Bison are two different people. You’ve given me a whole new perspective on acting and cinema,” she said.
“Thank you for teaching me and for being patient with me. I’m sure the first few days of the shoot must have been difficult,” she added with a smile. “I feel privileged to have been part of a film like Bison.”
