Courting controversy, more often than not, has been a sure-shot way of amping up the promotions for a particular film. As they say, no publicity is bad publicity. But there are times when it is clear that the person making a controversial statement didn't really think things through. The statement didn't come from malice, but from excitement to say something impactful about their upcoming film. One such statement came from Dhruv Vikram during the promotions of Mari Selvaraj's Bison. He said, "Till now, I have acted in two films. Even if you haven't watched those two, there's no problem. But you should definitely watch this film, as I consider this my first film." Things could have been different if those two films weren't high-profile ones. However, the internet doesn't forget, and it had a field day with the statement.
Addressing the aftermath of his off-handed quote, Dhruv says, "I think it was just my over-enthusiasm. But it is also because the process of becoming a part of Mari Selvaraj's Bison changed me as an actor and as a person. I forgot whatever I was before Bison." He even pointed out that forgetting Adithya Varma and Mahaan came from a place of genuineness, and not to ruffle any feathers. "I got engulfed in the mental space I was in for Bison. I understand the misinterpretation."
Dhruv also revealed that he clarified his statement with his Mahaan director Karthik Subbaraj. "I did speak to him about it, and I put forth the same point. I told him that the experience of working in Mahaan felt like something that happened to me in a past life. With Bison, I felt reborn," says the actor, who is awaiting with bated breath for the audience's response to his changeover in Bison.
The film, which also stars Anupama Parameshwaran, Rajisha Vijayan, Lal, Ameer, and Pasupathy, is set to hit the screens on October 17 for the Diwali release window. Bison will fight it out at the box office with Pradeep Ranganathan's Dude and Harish Kalyan's Diesel. Incidentally, this is the first festive release for all three young actors, and can be seen as a sign of things to come in Tamil cinema.
