Earlier, we reported about Dhruv Vikram saying that he regards Bison as his first film, although he made his debut with 2019's Adithya Varma and starred opposite his father in 2022's Mahaan. There has been some heated conservation around Dhruv's comment on social media, especially regarding his intention behind the remark. It has been considered a controversial comment, with some even arguing that Dhruv has disrespected not only his previous directors but also his background. Some has even brought in a nepotism angle to his comment. In the wake of the so-called "controversy," the actor clarified his comment in a recent conversation with Sudhir Srinivasan.
While admitting that Adithya Varma is his debut film, the actor reminded us that it is still a remake of Arjun Reddy, and therefore, he cannot see it as his complete independent film. "With a promising young talent like Vijay Devarakonda having done a revolutionary film back then, Adithya Varma became a case of how we would interpret it in our style," Dhruv explained.
Regarding Mahaan, the Bison star said that he considers it a film that belongs to his iconic actor father, Vikram, and his favourite director Karthik Subbaraj. "Mahaan is a 'Chiyaan' film. My father did it with Karthik Subbaraj sir. I had a small, important role in it." The actor puts the remake aspect of Adithya Varma and the lack of significance of his role in Mahaan down to him considering Bison his first film before before he even started shooting for it. He also expressed his admiration for director Karthik, reserving special praise for films such as Pizza and Jigarthanda.
Dhruv Vikram also said that he had to forget his background to deeply immerse in his role in Bison. "I had to forget what I was like as an actor and as a person. Somehow in this process, I forgot who I was and overlooked what I have done thus far. Because my life is very different from the character in this film, it required a special effort."
The actor also admitted that he should have thought about the other interpretations of his comment.
