Works for Vijay's highly-anticipated Jana Nayagan has been going on in full swing. Although many details about the H Vinoth film has been kept under wraps, expectations have been skyrocketing as it will be his final film project before his full-fledged entry into politics. Singer and actor Teejay Arunasalam, who is playing a supporting role in the film, recently revealed that he will be playing Mamitha Baiju's pair in Jana Nayagan.
The actor, who is currently awaiting the release of Usurae, shared that he felt pressure when Vijay entered the sets of the film. "I used to feel jealous when my friends and co-stars tell me they acted with Vijay. In fact, I tried for an opportunity to act in GOAT, but it didn't materialise. When Jana Nayagan was announced as his last film, I felt I wouldn't be able to act with him again. Luckily, when I was shooting Usurae, I got a call to be a part of it. I was there on the first day of shoot itself," he said in an exclusive interview with Cinema Express and expressed his sadness for letting go of Shane Nigam's Balti as he wanted to choose Jana Nayagan to act with Vijay.
Jana Nayagan also stars Bobby Deol, Priyamani, Pooja Hegde, Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Narain.
Directed by H Vinoth in his first collaboration with Vijay, Jana Nayagan is said to be a political action film. It went on floors in October 2024. The makers had recently revealed a glimpse titled 'First Roar' which featured Vijay in a police avatar.
The film reunites Vijay with Prakash Raj after Varisu, Pooja Hegde after Beast, and Gautham Vasudev Menon after Leo. The film also reportedly stars actor Revathy as Vijay's mother. Revathi's previous collaboration with Vijay was in the 2002 film Thamizhan, where she played his sister.
On the technical front, Jana Nayagan features music composed by Anirudh, cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan, editing by Pradeep E Ragav, action choreography by Anl Arasu, and art direction by Selva Kumar.
Jana Nayagan is produced by Venkat K Narayana and co-produced by Lohith N K and Jagadish Palanisamy. The film will be released in theatres on January 9, 2026, for the Pongal festival season.
Teejay began his acting journey with the Tamil film Asuran (2019), where he starred alongside Dhanush. Since then, he has taken on notable roles in Thatrom Thookrom (2020), the anthology web series Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaadhaa (2022), and Pathu Thala (2023) alongside Silambarasan. Usurae, co-starring Janany, is set for release on August 1.
Meanwhile Mamitha Baiju has a notable line-up of films including D54, Irandu Vaanam, and Dude, among others.
