With just over a week to go for the release of Madharaasi, director AR Murugadoss has confirmed that he will be playing a special cameo in the Sivakarthikeyan-actioner.
Speaking about the film during the audio and trailer launch that was held on Sunday, the director said, "My team and I crafted a film that we truly enjoyed. When it releases, you too will attain the same happiness as we did. We can't say that the film outrightly has politically-laced commentary, but it will tell the story of what the society can expect very soon. This will be a film with a warning," he said.
When probed if he has done a cameo role in the film, he responded by saying, "In all three Vijay films I directed, I’ve made small cameo appearances. After that, I have not acted, but in this film you’ll spot me in one shot."
He further added, "I did this because I had a 'special vibe' working on it. When you watched 'Salambala' song, you must have felt an energy. Thuppakki is not a weapon, but is a metaphor. It a dream, a place. Sivakarthikeyan has held that strongly and come here."

Madharaasi marks AR Murugadoss's return to Tamil cinema after seven years. He last made Salman Khan's Sikandar which was released earlier this year to mixed and poor reviews. Sivakarthikeyan's film has raised anticipation for the theatrical highs that Murugadoss' film offers and for his performance.
The film also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Vidyut Jammwal, Biju Menon, Vikranth and Shabeer Kallarakkal in the lead roles, alongside Prem Kumar, Sanjay and Sachana Namidass. Vidyut is reuniting with Murugadoss after Thuppakki (2012).
The technical crew of the film includes Anirudh as the music composer, Sudeep Elamon as the cinematographer, and Sreekar Prasad as the editor.
The film is releasing on September 5 alongside debutant Varsha Bharath's Bad Girl.
