Amidst a slew of action-driven and big-scale blockbusters, the success of Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara, led by two newcomers like Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, took everyone by surprise. In a recent interview, Mohit Suri noted how, besides its box office success, Saiyaara was also a rare occasion in his career when his film was celebrated by the industry.
Speaking to Variety, the Saiyaara filmmaker said, recalling the early days of momentous box office success of his film, “I had never seen the industry come together. They were all celebrating it. Siddharth coming and saying, ‘I want to come and hug you.’ Rohit Shetty saying, ‘you don't know what you have done.’ Sukumar called it a mass hero film. Jr NTR, Prashanth Neel - so many of them called to praise the film."
In the same conversation, Mohit Suri also underlined how this collective excitement was different from other occasions, “They were calling up not to say congratulations. I know that message. They were like ‘thank you for making the film.’” So many senior filmmakers like Rakesh Roshan and Ramesh Sippy called me after this film.”
Recalled another anecdote where both Rohit Shetty and Siddharth were incidentally watching the film in same theatre, while seated separately. “Both big action movie directors, and both of them were crying in their seats. Can you imagine? This was one film where everyone came together.”
Among other subjects, Mohit Suri also acknowledged meeting Ranbir Kapoor to discuss the prospect of working together. However, he confirmed they re not doing any film together in near future. “I would love to work with him. His range is something that would fit well in my films, “ he added.
