Actor Aneet Padda’s sister Reet Padda took to social media on Friday to share stories showing comments in which she is giving it back to a user and standing firm on her stance that films like The Kashmir Files, The Kerala Story and Dhurandhar are propaganda. As per her comments she also called out Priyanka Chopra for not standing for Palestine at the recent Oscars speech and said that if her sister Aneet gets such an opportunity and if she “stands there like a dodo bird”, she would be the first one to call her out.
As per the screenshots of the comments shared by Reet, a user called “deadhuzzcameback” is seen calling out Reet for her viewpoints. “Came across your account through Aneet (I genuinely admire her work), and honestly, your takes were surprising. Calling films like Kashmir Files, Kerala Story or even Dhurandhar “propaganda” just because they don’t fit your narrative feels dismissive, especially when they’re rooted in real or inspired events. Disagreeing is fine, but denying lived realities isn’t…And if you expect Priyanka to take a stand on Palestine, (she’s done more for Palestine by providing aid etc) maybe encourage Aneet to do the same as she steps into a global platform. Accountability shouldn’t be selective,” he wrote.
To this Reet replied, “Normally, I don’t bother, because clearly trying to change someone’s mind here is like trying to teach cats to do calculus. But, since you’ve so generously invested your precious time reacting to every little thing I’ve reposted, I thought, why not?”
Talking about why she feels Dhurandhar is a propaganda film, Reet wrote, “For Dhurandhar, it literally serves as a government-friendly narrative, using political speeches to justify, say, the minor hiccup of demonetisation. Call it propaganda? Yep. Deny it? Not a chance (sic).” She also went on to explain the problems with films like The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story. “These films apparently enjoy a bit of creative math: ~32,000 women converted to Islam. When real cases barely scrape a few hundred. But hey, how propaganda works, right? Take a sliver of truth, sprinkle in some absurdly inflated numbers, and suddenly you’ve got a full-blown narrative against a community,” she wrote.
Reet also stated how these films would have been fine but the bigger problem is that movies contrary to the government’s agenda don’t get a release. “Sure, I’d be chill with such films… if it weren’t for the teeny issue that movies like Panjab 95, which actually tackle political issues but stray from the ruling party’s script, can’t see the light of day.”
Calling out Priyanka Chopra on her conduct during the Oscars speech when her co-host Javier Bardem spoke in support of Palestine, Reet wrote, “She’s got a chance to oppose an illegal war next to someone taking a stand, and… she can’t even step up. If my sister gets that kind of opportunity, and Inshallah, sachhe patshah, jai shri ram, I pray she rises to the occasion and she chooses to stand there like a dodo bird, I will be the first one to call it out.”
In conclusion, she wrote, “I strongly oppose political figures who bring religion into politics, especially when it leads to violence. That is a crime, and I will speak against it. I am not afraid to take a stand, even if it goes against the majority."
