After Deepika Padukone exited Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit over her 8-hour workday demand not being met, among one of the reasons, the conversation around work hours is floating in the industry. Now, Genelia Deshmukh, who is gearing up for the release of her next Sitaare Zameen Par, has given her two cents on the issue stating that more work hours in a day can get tough for working mothers but it is not entirely unmanageable. The actor added that she himself works 10 hours a day.
“It is tough but it is not impossible. I do work for 10 hours a day and there are days when the director asks to extend it to 11 or 12 hours,” Genelia told Zoom. “I think it's fair but we just need time to make those adjustments. When you have a day or two where you have to overdo, it's also an understanding and a process that needs to be done."
Deepika exited Spirit when several of her demands were not being met by the makers, which reportedly included an 8-hour shift demand, profit-sharing settlement and a paycheck that did not sit well with the director. Since then, many in the Hindi film industry have given their opinion about work hours in the industry. Previously, Ajay Devgn had also spoken about the issue stating that “Most honest filmmakers will not have problems with it. And apart from this, being a mother and working for eight hours, most people have started working eight-nine hours shifts."
Sitaare Zameen Par, headlined by Aamir Khan, will release in theatres on June 20.
