Aamir Khan’s upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, as per reports, has finally secured clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Earlier, it was reported that the RS Prasanna directorial had hit a roadblock with the Censor Board, after it suggested two cuts in the film and the makers refused to make the changes. A source had told Bollywood Hungama, “The CBFC have asked for two cuts. Aamir Khan feels the film should be passed without these cuts. He and director R S Prasanna have made the film with a lot of thought. Certain scenes and dialogues, when seen in context, seem completely appropriate.”
“With Aamir not accepting the cuts, the censor certificate wasn’t awarded to Sitaare Zameen Par. Aamir now plans to once again meet the CBFC Examining Committee on Monday and put forward his point of view. Hopefully, a solution will be achieved and the CBFC will pass the film on June 16. Once that’s done, the advance booking of the film will be thrown open. As per rules, cinemas can’t sell tickets in the absence of a censor certificate,” the source had added.
Now, it is being reported that CBFC has granted certificate to Sitaare Zameen Par following further discussions with Aamir, Prasanna, and the CBFC Examining Committee. Any other details on the cuts, whether Aamir agreed to make them or not and what kind of certification was granted to the film has not been disclosed.
But getting a certificate paves the way for advance bookings for the film to be open soon.
Sitaare Zameen Par is a spiritual sequel to 2007’s Taare Zameen Par. A remake of the 2018 Spanish film Champions, the film is scheduled to release in theatres on June 20. It also stars Genelia Deshmukh in a pivotal role.
