Christopher Nolan's epic mythological film The Odyssey faced a significant setback after becoming a victim to online piracy. Despite being released only a week ago, a high-quality version of the Matt Damon-headlined action film was reportedly leaked and widely circulated across multiple social media platforms, garnering millions of views.
According to reports, an X post published at 2:25 pm PT read, "Someone uploaded The Odyssey full movie on X. Can you believe it?". It shared a post from an account that leaked high-quality version of the movie. While the account has now been suspended, it had gained a whopping 2.1 million views within two and a half hours before being taken down for copyright violations.
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures responded to the film's leak on social media. "We became aware of the unauthorized posting of the film and immediately initiated takedown protocols. We take copyright infringement seriously and will pursue all appropriate remedies to protect our content and intellectual property rights," the statement read.
Despite this, The Odyssey is still dominating at the box office, sailing past $600 million globally in its second weekend. The film is based on Greek king Odysseus' (Matt Damon) long and ardous 10-year-long journey after the Trojan war to reunite with his wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway) and son Telemachus (Tom Holland).
The star-studded cast also features Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Rafi Gavron, Shiloh Fernandez, Mia Goth, among others.
Nolan and his wife Emma Thomas have produced the film through their production company, Syncopy.
