Spider-Man is showing off his web-slinging skills across the world with Brand New Day, besides breaking box office records. However, within the first two days of its release, the film became a victim of a large scale piracy where a high-quality version of the superhero film leaked on X.
The entire duration of the film was reportedly leaked by an account named Fredrick Bryan at 6.05 am PT which reached close to 6 million accounts and garnered 1,43,000+ likes and 10,000+ reshares before it was taken down by 3.25 pm PT.
Earlier, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey faced a similar leak a few days ago. The Matt Damon-headlined action film too was taken down from X platform after gaining over 2.1 million views. Universal Studios assured that they would pursue all appropriate remedies to protect their content and intellectual property rights.
However, this setback has not hampered the box office collections of Spider-Man: Brand New Day significantly as the Sony/Marvel Studios sequel delivered a record-breaking opening on Friday, with estimates placing its first-day earnings between $167 million and $173 million, surpassing the $157.4 million opening-day record set by Avengers: Endgame in 2019.
In India, the action-adventure film has amassed over Rs 100 crore within two days of its release.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day begins on the heels of the previous film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, which ended with Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) casting a spell over the world, to make everyone forget Peter Parker (Tom Holland), in order to protect his identity as Spider-Man. This includes his close friends MJ and Ned (Zendaya and Jacob Batalon). Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film is his second MCU project after Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The cast also features Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Florence Pugh, Tramell Tillman, Marisa Tomei, and Mark Ruffalo.
