For a film mounted on the scale of a period action epic, the release date can often become a race against the work still left behind the camera. Prabhas’ upcoming collaboration with Sita Ramam director Hanu Raghavapudi, Fauzi, has been building anticipation for months, with the makers positioning it as a large-scale story set against the backdrop of pre-Independence India.
The film had appeared to be firmly placed on the calendar earlier this year. In July, the makers unveiled a blood-soaked poster featuring Prabhas as a battle-hardened soldier and announced December 3 as its worldwide theatrical release. The announcement had marked the beginning of what was expected to be the film’s promotional campaign.
That date will now not be met. Producer Y Ravi Shankar of Mythri Movie Makers has confirmed that Fauzi has been postponed, saying the team needs more time to complete the film. Speaking at the pre-release event of The Paradise, he apologised for the delay and promised that the film would be something audiences would remember. He also described it as the greatest film for Prabhas after the Baahubali franchise.
While a new release date has not been officially announced, reports about the postponement have been circulating for several days. Earlier reports attributed the delay to the film’s extensive visual effects, pending production work and the demands of recreating its period setting. Filmfare had also reported that the post-production schedule was likely to push the film beyond its December 3 window.
The delay is significant considering the film’s scale. Fauzi is set during the British Raj and is built around Prabhas playing a soldier, with the story combining period action with an emotional and romantic track. Imanvi makes her debut as the female lead, while Mithun Chakraborty, Jaya Prada and Anupam Kher are among the other prominent members of the cast.
Ravi Shankar’s comments also suggest that the makers are treating the additional time as an opportunity to enhance the final output rather than simply shifting the date. Reports have suggested possible 2027 windows, including January, but none of these have been confirmed by the production house.
For Prabhas, Fauzi is part of an increasingly crowded slate that includes Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit, Kalki 2898 AD: Part II and Salaar 2. The actor had earlier said that scheduling, rather than a lack of projects, was making it difficult to release all his films within the same year. Backed by Mythri Movie Makers and presented by T-Series Films, Fauzi also stars Chaitra J Achar, with music by Vishal Chandrasekhar and cinematography by Sudeep Chatterjee.
