Sriya Reddy, whose previous Telugu film was the Prabhas starrer Salaar, plays a prominent role in the much-awaited Pawan Kalyan film OG that hits theatres worldwide tomorrow. Sriya will be seen playing Geetha in the film. During a recent interview, Sriya spoke about the cinematic influences of OG, and the kind of roles she desires to play in near future.
Speaking to Hollywood Reporter India about her role in OG, Sriya said, “Women are superheroes in today's time and age, where they often have no choice but to do this to survive. Geetha is one of them.” Sriya also recalled a few concerns about playing an older person, but added how they didn’t matter because ‘the main essence lies in how you play a strong woman of today.’ Sriya also spoke about how she holds realism very important in her performances even in commercial cinema. “In Salaar (2024), when Radha Rama says she was going to take all of them down, I felt invincible, and Prashanth Neel gave me the space to feel invincible during the shoot. In OG too, you will feel the realness.”
Reflecting on OG’s cinematic style, Sriya noted, “There is a very Quentin Tarantino kind of style to the film. OG is cool-looking action with an urban kind of shotmaking,” adding that its tonality is unlike a conventional Tamil or Telugu film. Sriya also mentioned that she wants to do films like Tarantino’s cult 2003 film Kill Bill. She added, “I want to pick up a sword and fight, I'm training in martial arts and I'm physically fit. Why can't women carry their strength on screen?”
Sriya Reddy, who took a break from acting for nearly 10 years, returned to movies in 2018 with Sila Samayangalil. Her other recent popular acting credits include the Prime Video original series Suzhal and Thalaimai Seyalagam.
