A major setback arrived for Telugu film industry last week, with the makers of Akhanda 2 being compelled to postpone their release due to a legal injunction from Madras High Court. Even as Akhanda 2 team considers a new release date, there are strong chances of the film arriving this Friday, on December 12, hence strongly affecting the box office potential of films like Mowgli, Psych Siddhartha and Eesha that were already scheduled to arrive on that date.
Even as the reports of Mowgli makers planning to postpone their release get stronger, Mowgli director Sandeep Raj penned a poignant and self-reflective note about the uncertainty around his sophomore film.
It is to be noted that Sandeep Raj's debut film Colour Photo, which went on to bag a lot of acclaim for its storytelling, too could not get a theatrical release due to COVID setback, and was released directly on OTT. Taking to his X page, Sandeep Raj penned, “Maybe Colour Photo and Mowgli deserved another director instead of me. These movies were made by a group of passionate people who can do anything for their profession. The common points between both films are facing bad luck with their release, just when everything seemed to be going well. And me. Maybe I am the bad luck.”
Further crediting his Mowgli team — Roshan Kanakala, Bandi Saroj Kumar, Sakkshi Mhadolkar, Harsha Chemudu, DOP Maruthi, Kaala Bhairava among others — Sandeep Raj stated, “Mowgli was made with the passion, sweat, and blood of so many dedicated people like I truly hope that all good things happen to Mowgli at the very least for their sake.”
Mowgli is produced by People Media Factory.
