Roshan Meka starrer Champion, which also marks Telugu debut for Anaswara Rajan, will arrive in theatres on December 25. A few days ago, the team unveiled first single from their film, featuring the lead pair. On Tuesday, the team resumed their promotions by launching the second single, titled ‘Sallangundaale.’
Composed by Mickey J Meyer, ‘Sallangundaale’ stands out for several reasons. To begin with, it’s not a standard romantic number. The song video establishes a situation where an entire villages comes forward to console, comfort and cheer a skeptic bride-to-be who wants to back out of her marriage due to some reasons. It’s a situational song, penned with soothing simplicity by Chandrabose, and very warm in its melody and singing (playback vocals by Ritesh G Rao and Manisha Eerabatthini).
Secondly, the focus is not on the leads. They are two of the many characters here who are part of the larger picture. Additionally, there is a long one-shot towards the early portions of the video, which grabs your attention and gets you instantly invested in the situation.
Written and directed by debutant Pradeep Advaitham, Champion promises to be a technically proficient sports drama, capturing its period details with finesse and authenticity. Madhie ISC is the cinematographer, and Thota Tharani is the production designer. Interestingly, the credits also mention Prakeerthi Uppalapati as an associate production designer, an uncommon practise in Telugu cinema. Peter Hein is the stunt choreographer for the film which promises to have plenty of action and thrills.
The film is jointly bankrolled by Swapna Cinema, Zee Studios, Anandi Art Creations, and Concept Fims. Among all the releases for December 25, it’s Champion that looks the most ambitious in its scale. Other releases that weekend include Patang, Shambhala and Dhandoraa.
