Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Akhanda 2, directed by Boyapati Srinu, is still in post-production, but reports suggest the film has already struck one of the biggest OTT deals in recent Telugu cinema. According to trade reports, Jio Hotstar has acquired the film’s digital streaming rights for all languages at an estimated Rs 85 crore, outbidding platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime.
The deal, if confirmed, would mark the highest-ever digital price for a Balakrishna starrer. Industry chatter indicates that the agreement came with one major condition, a December theatrical release, ensuring that the film is available for streaming during the Sankranthi holiday season. With one song left to shoot, the film is now in its final leg of post-production.
Initially planned for a September 25 release, Akhanda 2 had been lined up to clash with Pawan Kalyan’s OG. The makers, however, stepped out of the Dasara race. Reports now suggest the new target is December 5, especially after Prabhas’ The Raja Saab shifted to January 2026. An official announcement on the date is expected soon.
Akhanda 2 arrives with huge expectations, given the impact of its predecessor. The original Akhanda became a blockbuster in 2021, powered by Balakrishna’s dual role and Boyapati’s signature mass action blended with mysticism. The sequel promises to extend that universe, with Balakrishna once again donning the fierce Aghora avatar.
Produced by 14 Reels Plus, Akhanda 2’s teaser hinted at a grand scale, with visuals set against the Himalayan backdrop and actor Aadhi Pinisetty appearing as the antagonist. Samyuktha plays the female lead, while S Thaman returns as the music composer after delivering a chartbusting soundtrack for the first film.
