Naresh Agastya, who headlined OTT shows like Paruvu and Vikkatakavi last year, will soon be seen in a romantic-drama Meghalu Cheppina Prema Katha. The film, slated for theatrical release on August 22, also marks Telugu debut for Rabiya Khatoon who was previously seen in the Dhanush directorial Nilavuku Enmel Ennadi Kobam. During a recent interview, Naresh spoke about his new film harks back to a few old classics in some ways.
In an interaction with ABN Chitrajyothy, Naresh Agastya said, “I compare this film with Sekhar Kammula’s Anand (2004). It has that kind of breeziness and casual vibe with a musical touch. It’s not too complicated — here, we have simple characters in real-life conversations and situation.”
Recalling the first story narration for the film, Naresh added, “I remember it was a 2-hour session with Vipin, and I felt like he is creating Sankarabharanam (the iconic 1980 movie by K Vishwanath) for new generation. I haven’t done such a feel-good film in my career. Mostly, I get offers for suspense thrillers and similar genres, but I’ve always liked to experiment in my script selection.”
Naresh also stated that music plays a very important in the role. “In the story, two factors play a major role in Varun’s musical pursuits — nature and this character Meghana, played by Rabiya. I am a big fan of Justin Prabhakaran’s music.”
Set in the quiet hill station of Valparai, Meghalu Cheppina Prema Katha follows the evolving relationship between Varun, an aspiring musician dealing with the fear of failure, and Meghana, a calm presence in his life. Produced by Uma Devi Kota, who also worked on the story and costume design, the film features an ensemble cast that includes Venkatesh Kakumanu, Harsha Vardhan, Tulasi, Aamani, Prince Rama Varma, Raja Chembolu, Mohan Raman, and Radhika Sarathkumar. Cinematography is by Mohana Krishna, with production design by Thota Tharani and editing by Marthand K Venkatesh.
