Barely two weeks after its release, Mahavatar Narsimha has stormed past the ₹150 crore mark at the global box office. The fully animated epic, directed by Ashwin Kumar, has been drawing packed audiences across India and abroad since hitting theatres on July 25.
Hombale Films, which presented the film, celebrated the milestone on Saturday with a post that read: “Unleashing a divine blaze #MahavatarNarsimha races past 150 CRORES+ worldwide gross till Aug 8th and continues setting screens on fire all over. Catch the divine phenomenon, running successfully in theatres near you.”
The film retells the timeless tale of Bhakt Prahlada and Lord Vishnu’s fierce fourth avatar, Narasimha. Prahlada’s unwavering devotion to Vishnu enrages his father, the tyrant king Hiranyakashipu, who, after gaining near-immortality from Brahma, attempts repeatedly to end his son’s life. When his cruelty reaches its peak, Narasimha manifests to protect the devotee and vanquish the oppressor.
Initially released only in India, the movie expanded its reach on July 31 to countries including Sri Lanka, Australia, Malaysia, and several parts of Europe. Available in 3D and multiple languages—Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam—the film has been praised for its rich animation and immersive score by composer Sam CS. The screenplay was written by Jayapurna Das and Rudra Pratap Ghosh.
Produced by Shilpa Dhawan, Kushal Desai, and Chaitanya Desai under the Kleem Productions banner, Mahavatar Narsimha is the first chapter in Hombale Films’ ambitious Mahavatar Cinematic Universe. Spanning from 2025 to 2037, the series will bring to life all ten avatars of Lord Vishnu through a slate of animated features.
