Ashwin Kumar's animated film Mahavatar Narsimha has been witnessing an unprecedented rise in positive reception ever since the film was released with many praising it for its technical details and animation work. With the film already crossing the Rs 100 crore mark within two weeks of it hitting theatres, speculations were rife that its OTT deal had been finalised. However, the makers were quick to address the speculations and clarified that the film is currently only available in theatres and no deal has been confirmed.
In a post on X, the makers said, "We’re grateful for the excitement around Mahavatar Narsimha and the OTT buzz — But as of now, the film is ONLY playing in theatres worldwide. No OTT deal has been finalized yet. Please trust only the updates shared from our official handles."
Mahavatar Narsimha is the retelling of the story of Bhakt Prahalad and Lord Narasimha. The story centres on the famous Hindu legend of Prahlada, a devoted follower of Lord Vishnu. His father, Hiranyakashipu, a powerful king and fervent atheist, becomes furious over Prahlada’s steadfast devotion. After receiving a boon of near-immortality from Lord Brahma, Hiranyakashipu repeatedly attempts to destroy his son. However, when his tyranny goes too far, Lord Vishnu appears in his fierce fourth avatar, Narasimha, to save Prahlada and defeat the oppressive king. The film is reportedly the highest-grossing animated film of all time.
The film is presented by Hombale Films, backed by Kleem Productions and produced by Shilpa Dhawan, Kushal Desai, and Chaitanya Desai. The film features an original score by composer Sam CS while the screenplay is penned by Jayapurna Das and Rudra Pratap Ghosh.
After having an initial release in India on July 25, it was expanded to multiple countries across the world including Sri Lanka, Australia, Malaysia, and across Europe from July 31. The film is now available in 3D formats in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam.
Meanwhile, a Mahavatar Parashuram film is in works and is set for 2027 release. Both the films fall under Hombale Films' ambitious Mahavatar Cinematic Universe which features a slate of animated films based on the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu. The films will be released between 2025 and 2037.
