While Venkat Prabhu is an established director in Tamil cinema, he dabbled in singing and acting prior to filmmaking. Venkat Prabhu was even set to star alongside Pithamagan-fame Sangeetha in a fiilm that was supposed to be directed by his father, Gangai Amaran. The project, titled Poonjolai, remained unreleased.
In an interview with CE, speaking about the unreleased film, said, "Poonjolai was the first film (Venkat Prabhu starred in). We couldn't release it, because no one bought it, atleast for how much it was made for. It could even be released now."
He added, "I was the one who wished that he would turn into a hero. But he wasn't destined to become an actor, so it did not happen. He was destined to become an actor, and I had to check myself."
But Gangai Amaran remains hopeful about the film. "Poonjolai can be released, like how Karakkattakaran is to be released on digital."
Gangai Amaran was recently seen in Lenin Pandiyan, which was directed by DD Balachandran. The film also stars Dharshaan Ganesan, Roja, and Shrrita Rao in the lead.
