Gangai Amaran has worn many hats in his cinematic career: director, writer, actor, singer, and lyricist. While he will be seen as an actor in the upcoming film Lenin Pandiyan, which opens in theatres on September 25, he opens up about one of his credits as a lyricist in an interview with CE.
'Idhu Varai' from Goa (2010) is both a romantic song and a heartbreak song. But one of the lines of the song goes, "Pengal endral aanai kollum noi aanadhu (Women are the disease that kills men)." Speaking about writing that he said, "That line was written in perspective of that particular character. He is in agony, because the woman is not talking to him, she is not confirming whether she loves him or not."
He added, "That is the reason we are obsessed. We are left in a limbo with no answers, that leave us in pain."
Apart from 'Idhu Varai', Gangai Amaran has also written 'Ezhezhu' and 'Vaaliba Vaa' from the soundtrack of Goa (2010). Gangai Amaran's nephew, Yuvan Shankar Raja, composed the music while his son Venkat Prabhu directed the film.
