Even as Karthik Subbaraj's Dorothy, his break from mass commercial films, has opened in theatres on Friday, details about the filmmaker's next have been unveiled. While promoting his recent directorial headlined by Keerthy Suresh, Sananth and Rishikanth, the director revealed more about his next work with Atharvaa.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Karthik Subbaraj not only confirmed the previously speculated casting but also gave an update on the film's production. "It stars Upendra sir, Prabhu Deva sir and Atharvaa. It is a rural film. I finished one schedule and took a break for the promotions of Dorothy. I will return back to direct it soon." Karthik also revealed that the film is being made for Netflix.
Karthik's last directorial work was Suriya's Retro, before which he made Jigarthanda Double X, starring SJ Suryah and Raghava Lawrence. While speaking about being open to do both large and small-scale projects, Karthik revealed, "I was approached for another big film after Retro, but I told them I wanted to finish this before doing any other film. The Netflix film came immediately after Dorothy, and I liked the story very much. The story is not mine, it is based on a novel written by someone else."
Other members of Dorothy's cast include Ramachandran Durairaj, Gajaraj, Muthukumar, and Jeeva Subramanian, among others. Karthik Subbaraj is producing the Dorothy under his Dhammam Films banner. Guneet Monga and Aachin Jain are also producing under the Sikhya Entertainment banner, with Jyoti Deshpande producing under the Jio Studios banner.
The film has music composed by Ilaiyaraaja, editing by Ganesh Siva and camera work by Tirru. The film had a premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival before it opened in theatres this Friday.
