The two actors have also been receiving considerable attention ahead of the film's release. Their track 'Kalyana Virundhu' has found traction through reels, with the duo repeatedly being asked to recreate their signature moves at promotional appearances. The buzz around the two has consequently become one of the talking points surrounding Dorothy.
At a recent promotional event in Madurai, however, Keerthy's casual use of the word 'da' while addressing Rishikanth and Sananth has sparked a debate on social media. During the interaction, she playfully asked the duo, “Kandupeengala da?” (Will you be able to pay attention to me?), prompting some sections of social media to question whether the way she addressed them was appropriate for a public event. Others viewed it as an informal exchange between co-stars.
The remark came shortly after Keerthy spoke warmly about her equation with the two actors. She said that although she had worked on the film only for a few days, she felt as though she had known Rishikanth and Sananth for years. She also praised their performances and said she was looking forward to audiences watching their work in the film.
Keerthy then turned the conversation into a joke, telling the audience that she was not sure whether Rishikanth and Sananth could still be “caught” after the attention they have received through the film. The two actors responded to her comments with smiles during the interaction, with no indication at the event itself of any friction between the actors.
Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, Dorothy marks a significant collaboration between Keerthy, Rishikanth and Sananth, with music by Ilaiyaraaja. The film, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, is set in rural India in the early 1990s and explores friendship, compassion, caste and violence. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on September 25.
