Actor Soori has opened up about how director Ravikumar approached him for his next film, revealing that the filmmaker described the project as an even bigger challenge than Mandaadi. Speaking to Galatta Plus while promoting his upcoming film, Soori said he had been hoping to work with Ravikumar for several years before the opportunity finally came his way.
According to Soori, he has shared a close friendship with Ravikumar for around seven to eight years and had repeatedly expressed his desire to be part of one of the filmmaker’s projects. He said he would often tell the director that he was ready to work with him whenever an opportunity arose.
Soori recalled that Ravikumar eventually approached him with a script and told him that he was the right person for the role. “You’re the only person who can do a script like this now. You have to do it,” Soori recalled the filmmaker telling him.
The actor admitted that the script initially made him wonder why Ravikumar had chosen him for such a project. Ravikumar, however, reportedly pointed to Soori’s transformation into a serious actor and his willingness to take risks following Viduthalai. He also told Soori that the new film would be significantly more challenging than Mandaadi, while assuring him that he would be taken care of through the process.
Soori said he was willing to take on the challenge regardless of where the role took him. “Whatever role you want to take me to, wherever you want to take me, I don’t mind. I want to work with you. If you want me, I’ll always be ready,” he said. Further details about Ravikumar’s film, including its title and plot, are currently under wraps.
Soori's Mandaadi is directed by Mathimaran Pugazhendhi of Selfie fame. The sea-based action drama revolves around a traditional sailing boat race along Tamil Nadu’s coastline, with Soori playing the leader of a fishing expedition team. The film also stars Mahima Nambiar, Suhas, Sathyaraj, Mithun Jai Sankar and Ravindra Vijay, with GV Prakash Kumar composing the music. Mandaadi is scheduled to hit theatres on September 10.
