On Saturday, composer Anirudh dropped a photograph featuring him with AR Rahman. “Frame eh paarunga ji,” he wrote in the caption, referring to a popular line from Rajinikanth in Jailer 2, featuring music from the composer. “Always the best vibes with my GOAT,” he added. Rahman’s son AR Ameen also shared the photograph on his Instagram Stories space, attaching to it the ‘Ravana Tandavam' song from the upcoming film Ramayana, featuring music by his father and by fellow Oscar winner Hans Zimmer. For the unversed, Anirudh and GV Prakash have sung the Tamil version of the aforesaid song in director Nitesh Tiwari's film, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash in the lead roles.
Anirudh's post has received instant reactions from his and Rahman's fans, with some of them expecting their collaboration to continue. One user expressed a desire for a Rahman song in Anirudh's composition in Dharman, Rajinikanth's upcoming film, while another called the duo the Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar of Indian music.
Anirudh has been receiving much appreciation for his recent work in Tamil cinema. His music in director Arun Matheswaran’s DC, starring Lokesh Kanagaraj and Wamiqa Gabbi, has won plaudits from both audiences and critics alike. Viewers, in particular, have cited the DC music as an example of how music, especially the background score, alone can elevate a film. His contribution to the gangster film's box office success also earned him a brand new BMW car from its producer and his future father-in-law Kalanithi Maran. Anirudh has also received much appreciation for his music in the Jailer sequel.
Speaking of DC, the film has a fusion of classical and contemporary music from the popular composer. It is worth noting that Rahman once told him to bring in an element of classical music to his discography, and he seems to have paid heed to the Oscar winner.
