With just a week left for the release of the most-anticipated sequel of the year, Jailer 2, audiences have been surprised about the limited promotions for the film. Unlike the usual routine for a Rajinikanth festival release, the makers chose against an audio launch function, featuring an iconic speech from the veteran actor.
Even the album of the Nelson directorial, composed by Anirudh Ravichander, was unveiled to a limited audience through a concert, rather than a traditional grand audio launch. Furthermore, the trailer was also unveiled in a very usual manner, with fans speculating whether the promotions are limited because the makers don't want to oversell the film.
On Friday, Sun Pictures revealed that a pre-release event of the film, with all the star cast and crew, will premiere on Sun NXT at 6pm on the same day. The promo video features a fun interaction between director Nelson and Rajinikanth, with the ensemble cast along with the producer, Kalanithi Maran and composer Anirudh, among others, present. Rajinikanth's speech is also expected to be a part of the show.
Earlier, there were speculations that Rajinikanth was to sit-down for a 3-hour long interview ahead of Jailer 2. However, it is unclear if that interview is still happening.
Nelson returns to write and direct Jailer 2, after Jailer (2023), which sees the return of "Tiger" Muthuvel Pandian (Rajinikanth) as he investigates a bigger syndicate behind the idol smuggling ring, which Muthuvel bought down in the first film.
The cast of the film includes Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan, SJ Suryah, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Ramya Krishnan, Mirnaa Menon, Yogi Babu, Jatin Sarna, Tamizh, Ramachandran Durairaj, Jaffer Saadiq, Bagavathi Perumal, Meghana Raj Sarja, and Bjorn Surrao, among others.
The crew of Jailer 2 also includes cinematographer Vijay Kartik Kannan, editor R Nirmal, art director Drk Kiran, and action choreographer Chethan D’Souza. Kalanithi Maran has produced the upcoming film under his Sun Pictures banner. The film will open in theatres on October 15.
