Actor Suriya got emotional at the Thanksgiving meet of Karuppu on Saturday, where he spoke about the film’s unexpected success, the director's belief in the project, and how the now-celebrated climax song was a last-minute addition made months after the film was completed.
Calling the film’s reception “a blessing", Suriya said, “This is a success we wished for but never expected at this scale. There is God’s hand in this film.” He added that the team has been overwhelmed by the audience response not just in Tamil Nadu but across India and countries in the world.
The actor revealed that Karuppu was born out of a quick decision taken nearly two years ago and credited the film entirely to RJ Balaji’s vision. According to Suriya, the filmmaker had confidently predicted that the film would create a strong theatrical experience from the very beginning.
One of the biggest revelations from Suriya’s speech was about the film’s climax song, which has become a major talking point among audiences. He shared that the song was not originally part of the film and was added nearly five months after the edit had already been locked. Suriya credited the idea to Kumar, whom he described as someone who has been with him for 28 years “like a younger brother".
“We had already edited and completed the film, but it still felt like something was missing,” Suriya said, adding that despite concerns about additional spending on a film that had already been in production for two years, the team decided to go ahead with the song anyway.
Suriya also thanked Dream Warrior Pictures’ producers Prakash and Prabhu for backing the film and supporting every major creative decision. He further expressed gratitude to theatre owners for reopening advance bookings and increasing the number of shows after placing their faith in the film.
“I haven’t seen this kind of reaction in theatres in recent times,” Suriya said, adding that seeing houseful boards and audiences ranging from children to elders celebrate the film has been deeply fulfilling for the team.
