Dhanush's latest film Kara has locked a streaming release date, almost a month after its release in theatres.
The heist thriller directed by Vignesh Raja has also been written Alfred Prakash and follows Dhanush aka Karasaami (a) Kara, a robber during the Gulf War of 1991 which leads to a fuel crises in Tamil Nadu, forcing him to battle for his sustenance.
The official description of the film reads, "A thief tries to go straight, but when predatory banks trap his father in debt, he returns to crime--with a determined cop closing in on his trail."
The film released in theatres amid much-anticipation on April 30 but received mixed reviews. It underperformed at the box office, earning only around Rs 41 crore worldwide.
An excerpt from our CE review of the film reads, "For the longest time, Kara gets this balance right, but once the petty thief decides to take a turn to become something bigger, like a hero… the film sacrifices itself for the seemingly greater good. However, it is anything but that, and Kara risks becoming the equivalent of pledging your land to buy a tractor during the Gulf War."
The cast also features Mamitha Baiju, KS Ravikumar, Karunas, Jayaram, Prithvi Rajan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, MS Bhaskar, Sreeja Ravi and Prithvi Pandiarajan.
GV Prakash Kumar has composed music for the film. The crew of the film includes Theni Eswar as the director of photography, Sreejith Sarang as the editor, and Mayapandi as the art director.
Kara is set for release on OTT platform Netflix on May 28.
