After multiple delays and disappointments, Suriya's much-awaited Karuppu has opened in theatres, and fans are calling it a successful outing for the actor. While most of the reviews for the RJ Balaji directorial have praised Sai Abhyankkar for his music, some have also detailed Suriya channelling his inner Karuppusamy in the film.
One X user called the film a, "pakka commercial entertainer after a long time. The post further read, "#Suriya Goes Full Beast Mode With A Powerful Performance. Emotional First Half And Power-Packed Second Half Worked Really Well. RJBalaji Shines Both As A Hero And Director. Theatre Moments, Surprising Elements, Interval Block, And Climax Sequence Are Pure Blast."
For an X user Karuppu was "the best theatrical experience after a long time." Analysing the first and second half seperately, the user wrote, "The first half had a good story, strong emotional connect, and many mass moments that worked well. The second half lacked a strong story but was still enjoyable and entertaining."
Praising the climax in particular, a user wrote, " A Good 1st Half followed by a Mass Mass 2nd Half. Peak Interval Sequence. Peak Peak Peak Climax. OG #Suriya is Back. What an energy. RjBalaji Peak Commercial Writing. Anbaana fans will forever celebrate you. So many surprises, so many references that give goosebumps moments. Sai Abhyankkar BGM. That Verrapa Song. Verdict: Paisa Vasool Sambavam."
One X user said a "sureshot blockbuster loading" while describing Karuppu. "Karuppu an Absolute theatrical commercial feast. Has so many High moments especially the interval & Pre Climax."
An X user commented upon the film's logical loopholes and opined on Trisha's role. "Packed With Plenty Of Theatre Moments Throughout. Technically A Brilliant Film — DOP Work Is Superb And Sai’s BGM Is Pure Rudhrathandavam. This Is Exactly What We Wanted From #Suriya — PEAK COMMERCIAL CINEMA. RJB. Climax. Trisha’s Role Could Have Been Better. Don’t Expect Logic Or Anything Class... This Is A Proper Commercial Entertainer Meant To Be Enjoyed For Its Theatre Moments. Overall, A Satisfying COMMERCIAL ENTERTAINER & WORTH."
With Suriya playing the role of Saravanan (a reference to the actor's real name) and Trisha as Preethi, the cast of Karuppu also includes Natty Natraj, Mansoor Ali Khan, Swasika, Sshivadha, Anagha Maya Ravi, and Supreeth Reddy, among others.
Sai Abhyankkar has composed music for Karuppu, his sophomore Tamil project, which features lyrics by Pa Vijay, Vivek, Vishnu Edavan, Asal Kolaar, Adesh Krishna, and Arun Srinivasan. The crew of the film includes cinematographer GK Vishnu, editor R Kalaivanan, production designer Arun Venjaramoodu, and stunt choreographers Anbariv and Vikram Mor.
