A day after multiple shows of Suriya’s Karuppu were cancelled reportedly due to pending financial settlements with financiers from the production side, the makers have finally confirmed a green signal for the action drama’s worldwide theatrical release. Marking the announcement with an emotional note, Dream Warrior Pictures thanked fans who stood by the film despite repeated delays and uncertainty.
In a heartfelt statement shared on social media, the team acknowledged the emotional toll the delay had taken on audiences and apologised to fans who had been eagerly waiting for updates. “There are some journeys that test not just time, but the heart itself,” the statement began, reflecting on the long and challenging road the film has travelled.
The makers expressed gratitude to every fan who continued to believe in Karuppu, saying the unwavering support, messages, and patience from audiences kept their hopes alive during difficult times. “We know this wait was painful,” the statement read, adding that every setback weighed heavily on the team as well.
Announcing that Karuppu will now release worldwide, the production house described the film as a labour of love built through “blood, sweat, sleepless nights, struggles, and emotions.” The team further emphasised that the film no longer belongs only to its creators, but also to the fans who stood beside them throughout its turbulent journey.
Suriya too confirmed the same, sharing a new poster of Karuppu and captioning it with the words, "Dear all… Thank you for being with us!" Karuppu / Veerabhadrudu from today!"
Karuppu was slated for release on Thursday, but opened to cancelled morning shows owing to pending financial settlements, frustrating thousands of fans and audiences who had gathered outside theatres, unaware of the last-minute cancellations. Director RJ Balaji shared an emotional video on social media, apologising to audiences and expressing hope on the film's release later in the evening. Unfortunately, its noon and evening shows were cancelled as well. Karuppu had locked its May 14 release date after multiple postponements and the release day crisis added another layer of major setback for the film.
As reported earlier, Karuppu stars Trisha as the female lead, reuniting with her Aaru (2005) co-star Suriya. The supporting cast includes Yogi Babu, Indrans, Sshivada, Swasika, Natty, Supreeth Reddy, and Anagha Maya Ravi. RJ Balaji also plays a key role in the film.
The film revolves around a father-daughter duo, played by Indrans and Anagha Maya Ravi, who face repeated delays in the hearing of their case, partly due to the manipulative lawyer Baby Kannan (RJ Balaji in an antagonist avatar). After losing hope and leaving their fate to the gods, their case is taken up by Saravanan (Suriya), who is teased as an incarnate of Karuppusamy. Assisting him is Preethi (Trisha), a lawyer who has previously crossed paths with Baby Kannan.
