Amidst the ongoing delay in the release of Suriya's much-anticipated film Karuppu, director RJ Balaji has now released a new video, sharing his emotions and offering clarification on the action drama's tentative debut in theatres. The actor-director-commentator, who looked visibly distraught, turned teary-eyed in the video shared on his Instagram handle. He apologised to fans and said that the issues would be resolved by Thursday evening, paving way for the film's release for its evening and night shows in theatres worldwide.

For the unversed, Karuppu was slated to release in theatres worldwide today, but faced unprecedented issues at the eleventh hour due to pending financial settlements with financiers from the production side. This lead to cancellation of morning and noon shows for the film, triggering a wave of confusion, anger and backlash from fans and audiences on social media.

"I hope this is my last update," began RJ Balaji, explaining the delay behind the release. "I am really sorry to all the fans. It shouldn't have happened. You all had travelled from afar to watch the movie. We watch films to let go of our stress and the myriad of problems life throws at us. But you all shouldn't have experienced stress in going to watch a movie. I am very sorry," he said.

The director further said he did not expect these issues to arise and hoped that they would be resolved by 6 pm in the evening.

From Kaappaan to Karuppu: A look at the release delays surrounding Suriya’s films

"I wanted Karuppu to release on May 14 and become a blockbuster. I was manifesting it. I am very hopeful," he said, wiping his tears. "It is painful, but God will remove all hurdles and the movie will release in the evening. We are all working towards it. Suriya sir has given so much for the film. Sorry that you all had to go through the stress, but it will be worth it. The film will be great. I believe in it," he added. After he posted the video, many took to the comments section to offer their support to him.

Karuppu stars Trisha as the female lead, reuniting with her Aaru (2005) co-star Suriya. The supporting cast includes Yogi Babu, Indrans, Sshivada, Swasika, Natty, Supreeth Reddy, and Anagha Maya Ravi. RJ Balaji also plays a key role in the film.

The film revolves around a father-daughter duo, played by Indrans and Anagha Maya Ravi, who face repeated delays in the hearing of their case, partly due to the manipulative lawyer Baby Kannan (RJ Balaji in an antagonist avatar). After losing hope and leaving their fate to the gods, their case is taken up by Saravanan (Suriya), who is teased as an incarnate of Karuppusamy. Assisting him is Preethi (Trisha), a lawyer who has previously crossed paths with Baby Kannan.
