Now that Vijay has sworn in as the CM of Tamil Nadu, team Karuppu is amping up the hype surrounding the film, directed by RJ Balaji and starring Suriya and Trisha, among others. Earlier this Sunday, the production banner behind the film, Dream Warrior Pictures announced that the team will attend the IPL match between the Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants this evening. The match is scheduled to start at 3:30 pm this Sunday, and the trailer is set to be launched three and a half hours later.
"Anbaana Fans ah paaka, AnbuDen-ku varrom - team Karuppu on the way to the CSK vs LSG game today," the production house wrote in the announcement post.
Earlier, RJ Balaji has revealed that the film faced delays for multiple reasons, including the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Elections. The actor-director has also waited for the CM swearing-in ceremony to be over for the trailer launch so that people's attentions goes away from politics and comes back to cinema.
It is not sure what activities that the team has planned at the IPL match later today. Fans are eagerly waiting to know whether the cast and crew will appear on stage midway through the match and whether composer Sai Abhyankkar will perform there.
There has been a constant intersection of cinema and the IPL for a long time now. For years, a DJ would play music from popular Tamil films as CSK players walk into the crease at the fall of wickets. Besides, earlier this year, Sivakarthikeyan attended a CSK fan event and hyped up each player in the local IPL team.
Coming back to Karuppu, the film also stars director RJ Balaji himself, Indrans, Natty, Swasika, and Sshivadha. Sources close to the film told CE that RJ Balaji has an important role in the film and not a cameo.
