There is still some uncertainty over who will be the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Actor Vijay's party TVK has had a victory in the recent Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Election that has stunned many in the state and beyond, including longtime political experts who keep an eye on the political landscape in the South. However, the party failed to secure the seat majority that is required to form a government. The requirement for it is 118 seats, but TVK secured 108 seats—ten short of what would have been an even more remarkable feat. Meanwhile, there is a stalemate situation with regard to the CM's position, with members of TVK and its ally Congress criticising the state Governor for not allowing the actor-politician to form a government yet.
Many celebrities, including those who have been supporters and detractors of the superstar and his political ambitions, have been criticising the Governor's stance amidst the growing uncertainty over who will be the next CM of Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, director Rahul Dholakia has reiterated his support for and admiration of the superstar. "Clearly the people of Tamil Nadu prefer actor Vijay over most others- so he should be given the first chance - Details should be a formality not an obstacle," wrote the director.
Earlier this May, after the announcement of the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election results, Rahul Dholakia supported the idea of Vijay becoming the Chief Minister of the state. At the time, the filmmaker wrote, "Big fan of actor Vijay‘s charm, now let’s hope the people of Tamil Nadu get a blockbuster 5 years!"
Rahul is best known for helming Raees, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Mahira Khan, among others. The 2017 film is a thriller with political elements.
