The talking point since Wednesday night has been about whether Vijay will be able to become the CM and get enough support from other parties to form a government. This uncertainty has crept in due to discourse over a coalition between the AIADMK and DMK for the same purpose, going against people's mandate. Earlier in the week, Congress expressed its support for Vijay and TVK to help form a government.
After the announcement of the results in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi congratulated Vijay and TVK on the win. Rahul wrote, "I spoke to Thiru Vijay and congratulated him on TVK’s spectacular result. This mandate reflects the rising voice of youth which cannot, and will not, be ignored. My heartfelt thanks to the Congress workers of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for their hard work and support. I reiterate that the Congress party will continue to protect and serve the people of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry."
Responding to Rahul, Vijay wrote, "My sincere thanks to the Honorable Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha for the call and kind wishes! We shall remain committed to excellence in public service, and preserving the cultural ethos of our state which requires collective cooperation. Beyond politics, we shall prioritize for the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu."
Amidst talks of the Congress-TVK alliance, an old video where Vijay talked about meeting Rahul Gandhi in Delhi is going viral. The incident dates all the way back to 2009, a time when Vijay was not even actively involved in politics. At an event back then, Vijay said that one of his well wishers informed him that Rahul wanted to meet him in person. The superstar went to Delhi with his filmmaker father SA Chandrasekhar for the meeting.
"I could not tell if they were being serious or playing games. However, I found it a good opportunity, which not everyone would get. I am not a big enough person to meet Rahul ji. Even so, I felt that I should not miss this chance, cancelled the shooting and went to Delhi with my father. We met him at his residence," Vijay said at the time.
The superstar added, "I was surprised by and felt very happy about how he received us and spoke to us. He is trying very hard to bring a change in India, focusing on youngsters. We all know the results of their moves in the recent Parliament Election. For somebody like him to meet me, I find it a matter of pride for me, my fans, and the people of Tamil Nadu."
The actor also revealed that he talked to Rahul Gandhi about multiple things for an hour, including cinema and politics. However, he also denied reports of the time about his interest in joining a particular party.
