There is much discourse around whether Vijay will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu today after his party achieved the near-unimaginable: a victory in the assembly election. Uncertainty over his CM prospects has arisen amidst talks of a DMK-AIADMK coalition to form a government. Meanwhile, a particular piece of news has flied under the radar a little bit.
According to reports, an office bearer of Vijay's party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, has been arrested on charges of sexual assault. Reportedly, a TVK member named Dinesh has been accused of sexually assaulting a preteen in Kasimedu, Chennai.
Responding to the news, Chinmayi Sripaada wrote, "Men who are sex offenders will land wherever they can smell power to try and get away with their sexual assault. A man sexually a minor in TVK. The party should have done a proper background check. If they promise change and have these slip ups, then there is literally no hope left for kids and women. Nobody really wants to keep saying They Are All The Same."
Chinmayi also expressed hope that such an offence will not repeat since TVK is still a relatively new party. Responding to a user who alleged that the party's supporters have taken down social media accounts of those criticising the crime, the singer added, "Well - A lot of us have questioned no matter who it was. We can hope it wont repeat since they are new. If they do we ll still question - after all that’s all we have. A voice."
Earlier in the day, Chinmayi expressed her surprise at TVK's win in the election. Without mentioning Vijay or TVK, the singer wrote, "I was on a complete and total break from social media, news, and everything and what JUST HAPPENED!!!!!!! What. A. Debut."
