Despite emerging as the single largest party in the recent Tamil Nadu assembly elections with 108 seats, actor-turned-politician Vijay was unable to secure a majority. After securing a post-election coalition with the Congress, taking his seat count to 113, Vijay sought a green signal to take the oath as the chief minister and prove his majority in the floor test. However, Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, has rejected the same, citing doubt over the party proving a majority.

With uncertainty still looming around Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)'s plan to form the government, several top celebrities have offered support to Vijay. Actor Vishal, who heads the Nadigar Sangam, has now voiced his support for Vijay on his X handle. He questioned why the governor was "hesitating" to give him the chance to form the government. Vishal drew examples from Goa, Manipur, Meghalaya and Karnataka elections in 2017-18 where the government was formed and then the members were asked to prove their majority in the floor test in the assembly.

"What is the respect for the people's mandate? We have 233 MLAs to be sworn in and we need a government and not a governor's rule after such a big mandate by TVK with almost majority seats to form the government. These fundamental rights are known not just to politicians but to the most powerful force: The people of Tamil Nadu (sic)," he said, and wrote a personal note to Vijay himself saying that he should and will form the goverment. "I am manifesting it," he remarked.

Earlier Kamal Haasan and Prakash Raj had extended his support to Vijay.

Vishal, who was last seen in Rathnam, directed by Hari, has Magudam which is in its last stage of production. The action film marks Vishal's directorial debut after filmmaker Ravi Arasu stepped out of the movie due to creative differences. He is also a part of Sundar C's upcoming film Purushan, which stars Tamannaah and Yogi Babu in key roles.
