Actor and Rajya Sabha MP Kamal Haasan has extended his support to actor and chief minister-elect Vijay after the latter's oath-taking ceremony was postponed. Scheduled for Thursday, the ceremony was postponed as Vijay is yet to prove a majority.

On Thursday, Vijay paid a visit to the Tamil Nadu Governor, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, seeking a green signal to take the oath as the chief minister and prove his majority in the floor test. However, the governor has rejected the same, citing doubt over the party proving a majority. Kamal Haasan's support came after this development.

In a long note on X, Kamal Haasan said the Tamil Nadu Assembly election verdict had resulted in a hung Assembly for the first time in the state’s history and stressed that the people’s mandate must be respected. While appreciating MK Stalin for accepting the result and agreeing to serve as a responsible opposition, the speaker urged constitutional authorities to invite Vijay, whose Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam won 108 seats, to form the government. Kamal also cited the SR Bommai judgement, asserting that a majority should be tested on the Assembly floor and not at the Raj Bhavan.

Vijay secured 108 seats in the elections, with him winning both Trichy East and Perambur. The politician is likely to choose Perambur and resign from Trichy East, with a by-election due for the resigned seat. Meanwhile, Vijay needs 5 more seats to prove a majority and form the government. The Indian National Congress has agreed to form an alliance with TVK, giving them 5 seats.
