Following a fall in numbers on the first Saturday since the release of Dhanush's Kara, the Vignesh Raja directorial continued the downward trend on its first Sunday, which was the most promising day for the film. While it collected Rs 5.20 crore on day 3 (Saturday), the film only collected Rs 5 crore on Sunday, day 4, across 3634 shows.
The overall India gross collections now stand at Rs 26.99 crore, inching towards Rs 27 crore. Despite the long weekend, thanks to Labour Day falling on a Friday, the film's opening weekend performance has only been average. The film opened with Rs 6.20 crore on Thursday and rose to Rs 6.95 crore on Friday but has only been dipping ever since.
Vignesh Raja has also written Kara along with Alfred Prakash. In the film, Dhanush can be seen as Karasaami or Kara, a former thief, who is forced to battle for sustenance due to the fuel crisis in Tamil Nadu during the Gulf War of 1991.
An excerpt from our CE review of the film reads, "For the longest time, Kara gets this balance right, but once the petty thief decides to take a turn to become something bigger, like a hero… the film sacrifices itself for the seemingly greater good. However, it is anything but that, and Kara risks becoming the equivalent of pledging your land to buy a tractor during the Gulf War."
Apart from Dhanush, Mamitha Baiju plays Selli, Jayaram plays Muthu Selvan, KS Ravikumar is Kandhasaami, Suraj Venjaramoodu essays Bharathan, Karunaas is Kasi Maayan, Sreeja Ravi plays Dhanam, and Prithvi Pandiarajan essays Murugesan. MS Bhaskar plays an unrecognisable role in the film.
GV Prakash Kumar has composed music for the film. The crew of the film includes Theni Eswar as the director of photography, Sreejith Sarang as the editor, and Mayapandi as the art director.
