After opening with a promising Rs 6.20 crore on its first day (Thursday), Dhanush's heist thriller Kara, has seen a steady rise in collections. On its second day (Friday), the Vignesh Raja directorial saw a slight increase in revenue to Rs 6.95 crore, taking its total India gross collections to Rs 15.20 crore and total India net to Rs 13.15 crore so far.
Thanks to the rise in anticipation ahead of the film's release, Kara has been clocking in steady revenue. Considering the long weekend, the film is expected to see further rise in box office collections.
Kara has been written by Vignesh Raja as well as Alfred Prakash. The film has Dhanush playing Karasaami aka Kara, a robber during the Gulf War of 1991 which leads to a fuel crises in Tamil Nadu, forcing him to battle for his sustenance.
An excerpt from our CE review of the film reads, "For the longest time, Kara gets this balance right, but once the petty thief decides to take a turn to become something bigger, like a hero… the film sacrifices itself for the seemingly greater good. However, it is anything but that, and Kara risks becoming the equivalent of pledging your land to buy a tractor during the Gulf War."
The cast features Mamitha Baiju as Selli, Jayaram as Muthu Selvan, KS Ravikumar as Kandhasaami, Suraj Venjaramoodu as Bharathan, and Karunaas as Kasi Maayan, Sreeja Ravi as Dhanam, and Prithvi Pandiarajan as Murugesan. MS Bhaskar is also part of the film.
GV Prakash Kumar has composed music for the film. The crew of the film includes Theni Eswar as the director of photography, Sreejith Sarang as the editor, and Mayapandi as the art director.
