Karthi is currently busy working on Marshal, the upcoming gangster drama helmed by director Tamizh of Taanakaran fame. Recently at an event, the filmmaker let out details about the film's release date.
At the JFW event, he said, "I have completed two schedules for Marshal. About 43 days of shooting have been completed. We're planning for a Diwali release. It is a period film set in 1965."
Marshal features Karthi and Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead and boasts an extensive supporting cast, including Sathyaraj, Prabhu, Lal, John Kokken, and Eswari Rao. Set in the 1960s, the film aims to recreate the era with meticulous detail, backed by a substantial budget. Recently, Karthi’s rugged 1960s makeover for the film went viral, raising audience expectations for the period crime drama, which is planned for release in five languages.
Previously, in November, the film's second schedule of shoot came to an abrupt halt after a technician died in a fall at the shooting location in Tamil Nadu. 40-year-old Ayyanathan from Ilayankudi in the Sivagangai district fell from the roof of a wedding hall where crew members were staying during filming near Pudukkottai. He was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of the morning, left the crew shaken.
Sai Abhyankkar, who has a packed year with several highly anticipated projects in hand, will also compose music for this film. Sathyan Sooryan will be cranking the camera for Marshal, with edits by Philomin Raj and production design by Arun Venjaramoodu.
Dream Warrior Pictures' SR Prakash Babu and SR Prabhu are producing the film alongside Ishan Saksena, Sunil Shah, and Raja Subramanian. As Taanakkaran, Tamizh's directorial debut, premiered directly on JioHotstar, Marshal will be the filmmaker's first theatrical release.
