Actor and director R Parthiban has issued another clarification regarding his recent remarks about Vijay and Trisha at the Galatta event. While he previously issued a detailed statement clarifying his stance, he has now let out another video, tendering an apology to end the conflict.
Parthiban said Vijay’s growth has been immense, noting that even the Indian National Congress was reportedly able to negotiate better terms with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam by suggesting it could otherwise align with Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. However, he claimed that the recent reception event where Vijay and Trisha appeared together triggered criticism, even from within the party.
Addressing accusations that he blamed only Trisha, Parthiban clarified that both Vijay and Trisha share equal responsibility for their decision to appear together. He added that he had initially welcomed Vijay’s political entry, admiring his decision to step away from peak stardom to enter politics. Because of his enthusiasm, many people speculated that he might join Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. However, he said the same Vijay fans who once appreciated his support are now questioning his intentions.
Parthiban also said he has always known Vijay to be a reserved person and had wondered how he would adapt to politics, which demands constant public engagement. Watching Vijay’s speech at the party’s first conference moved him emotionally, and he said he felt proud while witnessing it.
He emphasised that he does not belong to any political side and has no intention of joining politics now or in the future. Responding to rumours that he had praised Vijay earlier in hopes of receiving a position in the party, Parthiban dismissed them as baseless.
Referring to the controversy around his comments, Parthiban said Vijay himself had urged fans not to fight over the issue and to focus instead on public welfare. Despite advice from others not to respond, Parthiban said he felt compelled to clarify his position.
He added that the controversy escalated after Trisha responded to his earlier statement, prompting him to issue his own clarification. At the funeral of veteran Communist leader Nallakannu, Parthiban said he learnt that Trisha had pledged to donate her organs and took the opportunity to appreciate her for that decision despite their differences.
Concluding his statement, Parthiban said he cannot take back what he said earlier but can learn from the experience. He added that he never intended to hurt anyone and apologised if his remarks had caused offence.
For the unversed, the controversy began with the actor-director's comments about Trisha at an awards function. He had said that the '96 actor should "sit at home" to avoid any problems, a wordplay on 'Kundhavai', Trisha's character from Ponniyin Selvan. Trisha had, later, without mentioning Parthiban, hit back at his "crude words". "A microphone doesn’t make a comment intelligent or humorous. It just makes stupidity louder," she said, noting that she was informed that her name and photo were included at the "last minute" at the request of an individual conveyed through his assistant.
