CM Vijay’s journey into politics and his rise to becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu was far from easy. Few have witnessed that journey as closely as his mother, Shoba Chandrasekhar. On his 52nd birthday, she reflected on the challenges he faced while entering politics and the hurdles that followed.
In a recent interview, Shoba said, “Even in his film career, Vijay did not receive much support when he started out. He faced constant criticism, but he turned every negative into a positive and worked his way towards success.”
She also recalled the anxiety she felt during the peak of his electoral campaigns. “I was very scared. He had stepped into a very difficult space, and I didn’t know how he would handle it. If you think about it, there was hardly any support for him. He had to face everything on his own, which made it even more difficult. There were moments when I wondered why he chose this path despite knowing the challenges that would come with it. I never shared my fears with him. At that time, he was deeply upset, but he eventually overcame it and moved forward,” she said.
Vijay made his grand entry to politics in 2024 and quickly rose to become a formidable party within two years. During the recent assembly elections, TVK made a historic debut, securing 108 seats and became the largest single bloc. He later formed a coalition government by securing the support of the Indian National Congress, VCK, IUML, CPI, and CPI-M, bringing their total support to 120 legislators. Vijay took oath as the ninth chief minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10 in a historic swearing-in ceremony at a packed Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, bringing an end to nearly six decades of dravidian duopoly.
