Recently, we reported that Dhanush's nephew, Pavish, will next star in Attacker, a film by debutant director Dhamo Nagapooshnam. The film, a sports drama based on volleyball, will also star Khushbu's daughter Avantika Sundar in the lead. The film was launched on Friday, and the event was graced by director Pa Ranjith.
At the event, Pa Ranjith revealed that Dhamo was also from his city and that he is set to make his debut after a long journey as an assistant filmmaker. Then, the filmmaker went on to narrate the story of how he introduced volleyball to his city and said it is the inspiration behind the upcoming film.
Ranjith first explained what led them to leave cricket behind and go in search of another sport. “Attacker is going to be a very important sports drama. In a way, it is rooted in a very personal memory. Back in the day, while we were playing cricket in my city, a fight broke out among us. After that, I gathered eight of my friends and decided we should start playing a different sport altogether."
On how his grandmother made him choose volleyball, he continued, "My grandmother had been very good at volleyball in her time, and through an anna in my locality, I learnt the game myself. Then I introduced volleyball to my friends, and slowly, it spread across the entire neighbourhood. We even formed our own team called Red Sun."
Ranjith then revealed that Dhamo took over after him and brought the team to the next level, inspiring the film. "Over time, after I stepped away, Dhamo and his friends carried it forward. They trained seriously, played well, and even went on to win tournaments. That journey and the spirit of that team eventually became the inspiration behind making this film.”
While Pavish plays Veeran and Avantika essays Friday, the film features Aji Lal as Whyaa and Goutham as Jana as well. On the technical front, Attacker has cinematographer Sai Munish, editor Arul Moses, costume designer Naushad Ahmed, assistant costume designer Divya Jessy, and art director Ramu Thangaraj. The film is produced by Dinesh Raj under the Zinema Media and Entertainment Limited banner.
